are we sure about cctv in schools?
So, apparently, Bihar has decided to install CCTV cameras in 40,000 government schools. Like, did anyone else find this a bit over the top? I mean, I get the whole security and surveillance thing but, come on!

I was just thinking about those schools we all know—the ones with paint peeling off the walls, playgrounds that haven’t seen grass since the ’90s, and benches that have a special creak to them. Now, imagine sticking some high-tech cameras onto those old buildings, like trying to make a jalopy into a sports car. Doesn’t really fit, does it?
And doesn’t it just feel a tad creepy? Like, we’re basically signing up for ‘Big Brother: Classroom Edition.’ From the morning prayers to recess dramas, it’s all going to be on film. Imagine being a kid and knowing that every Bollywood imitation you try in the school yard is being recorded. No pressure, right?

Maybe someone thought it was a good way to use technology to improve education. But what are they really planning to watch for? Skipping class maneuvers? Tiffin box thefts? Then again, maybe it’s a genius way to finally catch that elusive chalk thief.
I guess the idea is to make schools safer, but it also makes me wonder about privacy. Who gets to see these videos? And what’s next, cameras in the loo to catch graffiti artists red-handed?
Anyway, as the techies and politicians debate, the kids are probably just shrugging it off. For now. Until one of them decides to moonwalk in front of the CCTV. My eyes still hurt. I need coffee. Ugh.
