enough with deepfakes already

Oh great, another day, another panic over deepfakes. We’re stuck in this endless loop of watching what’s real and what’s not, and it’s supposed to make us all better-informed voters or something. Like we needed another layer of confusion on top of our already wonderfully clear media landscape. You know the saying? Don’t believe everything you hear? Now it’s everything you see. And I’m pretty sure we’ve reached peak idiocy trying to figure out if that political speech was real or some studio’s AI puppet show.

They say technology is here to liberate us or whatever nonsense line Silicon Valley is pushing this week. It’s more like we’re prisoners of flashy gimmicks and endless paranoia about what’s actually true. These tools are supposed to stamp out the diabolical deception, or at least that’s what they claim. But who’s really scoring here? Probably tech companies selling the “cure” for the disease they infected us with in the first place. ‘Oh, but look, we added a watermark!’ As if that’s somehow comforting when the internet is one giant swamp of lies.

And let’s not ignore the delightful irony that these brilliant tech minds fuel half of this chaos. Isn’t it just precious watching them flail around trying to put the genie back in the bottle? Guess what? There is no bottle! Only a shattered mess of pixels laughing at our pathetic attempts to cling to sanity. I’m done.
